So after sinking roughly $300 into my heep in just wear and tear parts last week, i find the my pinion bearing is in need of replacing. A bearing i wouldnt normally care about but after doing research finding out the carrier and axles need to come out. I just replaced the axles last week and get nervous ing about fucking with the ring and pinion setup. FML

I just went through the same issue.  It is alot of work.   I wound up getting new gears as I could not get a decent pattern with the old ones, probably due to the loose pinion causing adnormal wear.

Probably easier to just grab one off craigslist or from a junkyard

Know any history of the other axle? Its only a few hours to take out and install another one so it might just be worth a shot. Or you can refresh the extra one or take it somewhere while its out to have done since it would be cheaper than bringing the whole jeep in

its a JY axle, only thing i know is mileage, id have to pull it apart to know much more. I just bought a bearing and seal kit so im gonna take the next three days to do it right. Ive done lots of homework, wish I had tons of money to just buy a new G2 diff with an ARB in it

lol dont we all. Although I have considered selling off my 8.8 and just go with a bolt in 8.8 from ECGS for the couple hundred more to avoid the aggravation.

Good luck though, just take your time and youll be fine
