So ever since i submerged the XJ i've had this nice and annoying squeal from time to time, so i decided to check the U-joints today. Front left in serious need of replacing. Will have to do it before i drive to NC the 17th.

So i decided to spend my July 4th fixing the front axle ujoint..

after getting the trucked jacked i went to pull the hub assembly

then pulled the axle and got ready to dismantle

besides the ujoint being shot only 1 out of the 4 caps had any needle bearings left in it. I'm surprised it hadn't blown up.

so after alot of hammering i finally got it all dismantled

and then i screwed myself. while pressing the new ujoint caps back in i managed to miss a needle bearing that fell over. I was pressing away when snap..my day was done as it was to late to hit the parts store to get another.

so until tomorrow my truck now sits on jacks.

and i said screw it and pulled out the scotch

always tomorrow to finish

If it makes you feel any better, I accidentally bent one of the yokes on my axle last time I changed my U-joint and didn't realize it until I pushed the center piece through the cap.  Three times.

SummitRacing was the cheapest. I could have gotten it from Advance but even with store pickup it would have been $20 more.
